Brazilian Football Sets New Records

This is a demonstration of the Argentine records that Brazilian football is beginning to achieve. With this conquest by Flamengo, the populous Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro becomes the second Latin American city to win four consecutive Copa Libertadores.

Buenos Aires, November 29 (NA) – Brazil's Flamengo conquered its fourth Copa Libertadores of America this Saturday by defeating its compatriot Palmeiras 1-0, making Rio de Janeiro join the Buenos Aires municipality of Avellaneda as the only ones to have won four consecutive editions.

At the Monumental stadium in the Peruvian capital of Lima and with live coverage by the Argentine News Agency, the carioca team conquered its fourth Copa Libertadores of America and reaffirms the absolute hegemony of Brazilian football on the continent, being the seventh consecutive edition in which a team from the neighboring country becomes champion.

The gap between Brazilian teams and those from other Latin American countries widens even more, both in sporting and economic terms.

Precisely, 'Mengao' began this streak in 2022 by defeating Athletico Paranaense, followed by Fluminense in 2023 by defeating Boca at the Maracaná stadium in Rio de Janeiro, and last year, Botafogo beat Atlético Mineiro at the Monumental de Núñez stadium in Buenos Aires.

The first city to have achieved this feat was Avellaneda with the absolute period dominance of Independiente. 'Rojo' achieved two records that went down in history at that time: it won four Copa Libertadores from 1972 to 1975, something no other team has been able to repeat, and turned Avellaneda into the only city that had achieved this until this Saturday, when Rio de Janeiro matched it.
